Dominica has given birth to many centenarians and among them, Elizabeth Ma Pampo Israel who was the world’s oldest leaving person at the time of her death in 2003. She was one hundred and twenty-eight. Even her neighbour died at the age one hundred and sixteen.
Ma Pampo once said to me that she enjoyed swimming in the river and attributed her love for nature as one of her secrets to longevity.
Dominica is blessed to have so many rivers and waterfalls. Among them are the Jacko falls, which were named after a runaway slave, Chief Jacko. A very easy ten-minute hike could very well extend our lives a bit!
Spanny falls consist of 2 waterfalls. One very easy ten minutes hike and the other, quite challenging but the real adventurous ones will enjoy swinging on the ropes to get to it. This also, will contribute to longevity with the refreshing feel that comes with it.
The ever-popular Emerald Pool, surrounded by the lush green forest, feels like the trees are just dancing to the melody of the waterfalls.
